Pedals

Bike pedals connect the cyclist's foot or shoe to the crank arm and allow the rider’s leg power to turn the crank that connects to the gears, chain, and ultimately, the wheels, propelling the bicycle forward. On the first bicycles, pedals and their crank arms were directly connected to the front wheel. Today’s bikes are known as safety bicycles and are differentiated from the originals by their pedals crank arms being connected to a ring gear that connected to the front wheel by a chain.
